Rapid Calculation of Equatorial Rotation Curves
نویسنده
چکیده
We derive a simple, fast one-dimensional integral for the equatorial rotation curve of a thin disk with surface density Σ(R) modeled as a spheroid with axis ratio q. The result is simpler than standard expressions even in the limit of an infinitely thin disk (q → 0). Subject headings: galaxies: kinematics and dynamics

Pulse Shapes from Rapidly-rotating Neutron Stars: Equatorial Photon Orbits
We demonstrate that fitted values of stellar radius obtained by fitting theoretical light curves to observations of millisecond period X-ray pulsars can significantly depend on the method used to calculate the light curves. The worst-case errors in the fitted radius are evaluated by restricting ourselves to the case of light emitted and received in the equatorial plane of a rapidly-rotating neu...
متن کاملOutflowing disk winds in B[e] Supergiants
The effects of rapid rotation and bi–stability upon the density contrast between the equatorial and polar directions of a B[e] supergiant are investigated. Based on a new slow solution for different high rotational radiation–driven winds and the fact that bi–stability allows a change in the line–force parameters (α, k, and δ), the equatorial densities are about 10–10 times higher than the polar...
متن کاملEvaluation of New MOND Interpolating Function with Rotation Curves of Galaxies
The rotation curves of a sample of 46 low- and high-surface brightness galaxies are considered in the context of Milgrom's modi_ed dynamics (MOND) to test a new interpolating function proposed by Zhao et al. (2010) [1] and compare with the results of simple interpolating function. The predicted rotation curves are calculated from the total baryonic matter based on the B-band surface photometry,...
متن کاملOutflowing disk formation in B[e] supergiants due to rotation and bi–stability in radiation driven winds
The effects of rapid rotation and bi–stability upon the density contrast between the equatorial and polar directions of a B[e] supergiant are re–investigated. Based upon a new slow solution for different high rotational radiation driven winds (Curé 2004) and the fact that bi–stability allows a change in the line–force parameters (α, k, and δ), the equatorial densities are about 102–104 times hi...
متن کاملBe-star rotation: how close to critical?
We argue that, in general, observational studies of Be-star rotation have paid insufficient attention to the effects of equatorial gravity darkening. We present new lineprofile calculations that emphasize the insensitivity of line width to rotation for fast rotators. Coupled with a critical review of observational procedures, these calculations suggest that the observational parameter v sin i m...
